The True Death of PC Gaming?

I have never been one to believe the hype about consoles taking over the gaming industry.
The swing between them and the PC has always been, and I thought always would be.
And PC gaming was always so much better than console, the horsepower difference added to that of the peripherals for control just made the PC so much more flexible and enjoyable.
But in recent times, the game makers have truly decided to make PC players second class citizens.
It truly feels like we are hated and that our money is no longer wanted.
I can’t play with a console controller. They just don’t work for me. (I know, I’m just old. A console controller in my mind should be a black joystick with a single red-orange button on the left upper corner.)
Now, with the advent of the newest generation of consoles, the horsepower race seems fairly even.
HD TV’s make the screens just as pretty.
Finally, someone came out with this:
http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/05/xim3-xbox-360-keyboard-mouse-etc-adapter-goes-on-sale-imme/
It is only a matter of time before it works with the PS3.
Maybe it is time for me to make the switch…
Then again, maybe not.

N.F.L. – Neutered, Fat and Lazy.

OK.

Because I’m new here let me introduce my self, I happen to be a man.
In all sense of the word:
psychical, mental, emotional, spiritual and oh yeah, I carry a card that says so.

I believe men should be men.

I know that sounds so profound, but allow me to clarify…

Headshots by Railgun

Well,

We are back with some more thoughts from the resident psychiatric patient.

I can’t in good conscience keep using Mr. Kings title, so I have changed it to something more original. I hope you approve.

Ten Things I Think I Think…

Some football fans will recognize this title as I am blatantly stealing it from the SI writer Peter King.

I do this 1. because I love his writing and 2. I think it is a great idea. Hopefully I can make it a more regular feature so Smackfu will have some more content,

So let’s begin, Shall we?

I Like to be Told Stories.

Many of you… wait… I’m not sure I’m allowed to use the term “many” when referring to our current readership, but “both of you” really sounds too depressing…

Anyway, many of you may wonder what the hell we have actually been doing here over at Smackfu since none of us could get off our asses for nigh on a year now and actually post some content.

Well, most of the content I had to add was bitching about things, and Drew kinda made a rule that we should be posting about things that make us happy.

While I did try to convince him that bitching really did make me happy, he was not swayed. In fact I was told, rather unceremoniously, that if I wanted to “Whine like the little wuss that you are” to go do it on myspace with the rest of the idiots, but keep it off Smackfu.

Well, since that would require extra effort on my part it will be painfully obvious that this did not happen. (But I did bitch to my wife about it considerably. This made me happy for a bit. Until it made her unhappy, then it was not a good place to be… but I digress.)

So, in the interest of not bitching, I decided to actually try to find something other than bitching that made me happy… this has apparently taken me ten months.

My apologies.

Another Loss…

Yet another artist is gone…

It was a very bad week for the world. Boyd Coddington, Jeff Healy, and now Gary Gygax.

Gary Gygax affected my life more than I can say.

Believe me, I’ve written this six times and it has yet to come out right.

I had always thought I would get to meet him and thank him for the what he brought into my world, now that will never happen.

I have to defer to Eric Burns over at Websnark. Please take the time to read his eulogy.

Goodbye Mr. Gygax.

Thank you for touching my life.

We just can’t get enough of the 2008 Challenger around here

Nice article over at Winding Road about our current favorite car around here, the 2008 Challenger SRT-8.

An axiom from the world of industrial design goes like this: If something looks right, it probably is. Examples are legion, from the classic Eames chair to Raymond Loewy’s Coke bottle. This saying also rings true in the world of cars. There was nothing right about the exterior design of the Pontiac Aztek. In contrast, from any angle the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 looks right. Very right.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1, even better than perfect?

Being addicted to technology is hard; something better is always around the corner. Not even two weeks ago I was writing about the soon-to-be-released Garmin nuviphone and it has already been knocked off of my radar by the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 due mid-2008. I still think that the nuviphone is a compelling product and will find a decent market as it just makes sense to combine Garmin’s great nuvi GPS navigation system with a cell phone. The game changer there is adding internet capabilities to the GPS device which greatly enhances it’s capabilities.

Challenger in motion, video from autoblog.com

The still pics had me, but this video just puts it over the top for me. Check out this video of the Challenger playing in the desert from autoblog.com. I’m completely in love with the look and sound of the Challenger in motion.
