Macbook Air Announced at Macworld
I think I just found my new notebook, very nice!
The Apple Macbook Air (official site)
Update:
Maybe I don’t like it as much as I thought… no user-replacable battery??? What?!?
Update #2:
After some more thought, I have found myself completely on the fence about this one. This seems like it would be a wonderful traveling companion that would be perfect for syncing with a beefier system at home or in the office. Even better if there was a piece of software to facilitate the synchronization of email, calendar, contacts, documents, etc. between systems.
When I traveled quite a bit as a consultant I always envisioned the perfect traveling device to be something like this. I didn’t want to lug around a big desktop replacement laptop around with me all the time, but also needed something with enough power not to drive me crazy. I needed a communications device with the capability to run MS Office (or equivalents) and to entertain me occasionally with a DVD or lightweight game or two. Phones just don’t cut it, although some of them come close.
Too bad they didn’t come out with a 13 inch Macbook Pro that was a little thinner than the 15 and 17 inch models. I think that would have been something I would have run out to buy almost immediately.
I felt the same way about the iPhone, it’s sexy as hell, I want it badly, but can’t bring myself to buy as it just doesn’t seem complete enough. Although, my major gripe about the iPhone may have been taken care of with the new location detecting abilities that were also announced at Macworld this year.
It probably doesn’t help that I am pretty much OS-agnostic, if something like the Macbook Air or iPhone is going to be useful to me, it will have to work well with my main machine and email/calendaring systems. This being something I’ll need to come to grips with sometime soon if I want to get any serious work done.
